If it weren’t for the Fantastic Four, Marvel simply wouldn’t exist in the way it does today. The combined power of Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (aka The Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (aka The Thing) forever changed the trajectory of the biggest name in comics – delivering a family of heroes whose groovy, cosmic adventures changed the superhero game, buoyed by their bonds and bickering alike. But for years the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had to make do without its core quartet. Until now. Get ready for lift off – Marvel’s First Family finally enters the MCU in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The recent issue of Empire takes a world-exclusive deep dive into Marvel’s most essential movie since Endgame – going on set with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach to get the lowdown on their retro-futurist swinging-‘60s comic book adventure. Inside, we speak to MCU boss Kevin Feige on how to do the Fantastic Four right on screen; talk the space-age stylings of the group’s alternative world with director Matt Shakman; hear from Pascal, Kirby, Quinn and Moss-Bachrach about how they were recruited to Marvel’s most terrific team-up; and speak to planet-eating behemoth Galactus himself, Ralph Ineson, and his chrome-plated herald the Silver Surfer, Julia Garner, on the apocalyptic threat they pose. All that, plus it’s packed with never-before-seen images, on-set observations, comic book lore, and more. Far out!

This month’s newsstand cover brings the Fantastic Four together in the Baxter Building – while some nefarious forces loom on the horizon.

And the subscriber cover is a dazzling tease of Galactus and the Silver Surfer, on their way to deliver some seriously bad news to our heroes – illustrated exclusively for Empire by Doaly.

And that’s not all! Also inside, we sit down to talk Superman and beyond with recent Lex Luthor, Nicholas Hoult; go pedal-to-the-metal with F1’s Damson Idris; take a peek inside the most mysterious horror movie of the year, Weapons; talk death with David Cronenberg as he prepares to release The Shrouds; rustle up a major look-back at sheep-pig classic Babe with filmmaking legend George Miller; and much, much more. It’s an issue as delicious as a well-seasoned planet.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps issue hits newsstands on Thursday 5 June – and you don’t even need a silver surfboard to go out and find one. Pre-order a copy online here. The Fantastic Four: First Steps comes to UK cinemas from 25 July.
