The world of Tron has always been ahead of its time. The 1982 original was a game-changing early cyber-movie with revolutionary digital effects. Its long-awaited follow-up, 2010’s Tron: Legacy, was one of the very first legacy sequels, boasting an all-time-great soundtrack courtesy of Daft Punk. Now, 15 years later, Tron is back with another major upgrade – a massive state-of-the-art blockbuster that rewrites all the rules. The time for Tron: Ares is now. Load up the Grid.

The novel issue of Empire takes a world-exclusive dive into Tron’s epic return – going on set of Tron: Ares to get up to speed on Light Cycles, identity discs, and rogue AIs. Inside, we speak to director Joachim Rønning, original Tron creator Steven Lisberger and the cast – including Tron OG Jeff Bridges – on how the Grid collides with reality this time around, and discover how Hollywood’s most prescient saga gets even more relevant. Plus, we sit down for a major interview with Nine Inch Nails – aka Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross – as they ready Ares’ banger-filled industrial soundtrack. All that, and it’s packed with never-before-seen images and insights you won’t want to miss.

That’s not all, though. This month’s issue also comes in a very special limited-edition light-up cover version – coursing with the power of the Grid and illuminating the all-new Light Cycle with a red neon glow. You can find it on newsstands from Thursday 3 July, check for your nearest stockist here. Online orders for the light-up cover begin on 3 July.

There’s so much more inside the issue, too – we prepare for the arrival of Alien: Earth, get seriously silly with the return of The Naked Gun, go on a violent vacation with Nobody 2, gear up for the hunt with Predator: Badlands, discover the true meaning of love with the cast of Materialists, and much more. Hop on your Light Cycle and be sure to grab a copy once it hits the shelves.

The Tron: Ares issue arrives on newsstands from Thursday 3 July. Pre-order a copy of the regular cover here. The light-up cover will be available on shelves – and online – from 3 July. Tron: Ares comes to UK cinemas from 10 October.
