“I was told that there are confused feelings there—do with that what you will—and that they had realized in the house that I wasn’t the person that they wanted to spend the foreseeable future with,” Ebbs said, admitting to feeling “humiliated.”
But Siwa said that her perspective on many of her personal relationships shifted during filming. “I was now in my own thoughts away from everyone that I know, away from outside opinions, away from everything,” she explained during an April 28 appearance on UK television program This Morning alongside Hughes. “And I sat with myself and from that point on, I really realized things that I was okay with in my life that I should never have been okay with in the first place.”
She recently told Us Weekly that her friendship with Hughes had “absolutely nothing to do with my breakup.”
What has Siwa recently said about her sexuality?
Though she stated that she previously identified as a lesbian, Siwa said that while filming Celebrity Big Brother, she had second thoughts: “I realized, Oh no, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer. And I think that’s really cool.” She declared that she was “switching letters—Fuck the L, I’m going to the Q!” Siwa now tells The Guardian that she believes the queer label “best encompasses how I am, and who I am.”
On June 1, Siwa honored Pride Month with an effusive statement on her Instagram Stories, writing: “Happy day 1 of the happiest month. What I have learned over the last 22 years is that pride is all about love, acceptance, and celebration. No matter who you are or what you are, you are you, you are beautiful, and you are perfect. Everyone’s story is different and everyone’s journey is different. The most beautiful thing about love is that it’s just love.”
When asked about the heightened spotlight on her dating life, Siwa told The Guardian: “I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate. But I’m also living a human life. You can’t help who you love.”
Siwa insisted in the interview that she’s never felt better. “For me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now,” she said. “Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I’ve never [before] been in pain from smiling so much.”
At another point, Siwa spoke about a morning spent in bed scrolling on her phone while Hughes sang one of her songs. “You know when you’re alone, how you feel? You are your true, raw self,” she said. “I’ve obviously felt like that before, but never around one single person.”
