Ahead of today’s Hall H panel where members of the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will take to the stage at SDCC alongside director Emma Tammi, to give audiences a fresh look at the upcoming film, Blumhouse has unveiled the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel.

The film’s official trailer brings Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt back to the fold, and reveals that he, his little sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), and their friend, Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), are still incredibly traumatized by what went down in the first movie — and who can blame them? Despite having grown up quite a bit since the last time we saw her, Abby is still missing her “friends”, aka the ghostly-possessed animatronics from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. In fact, she’s missing them so much that she sets out on a quest to support them put the pieces back together, a decision that will prove a grim one when the characters break out of their pizza shop confines and descend on the town.

Set for a theatrical arrival on December 5, the movie will pick up following the events of the first film, which took both the streaming and cinematic world by storm when it arrived back in 2023. The first entry introduced audiences to Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt, a adolescent man who is struggling to hold onto a job and — in turn — to continue to take care of his little sister, Abby (Rubio). He seemingly lands the perfect gig as an overnight security guard at the long-abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, but his basic moneymaker soon turns into an absolute nightmare after the animatronic animals come to life and seek bloody vengeance for crimes committed in the past.

Who Else Is Involved in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’?

In addition to Hutcherson, Rubio, and Lail, Matthew Lillard will also be reprising his villainous role from the first movie, as he’s set to return as William Afton despite being killed off in the first flick. Additionally, newcomers (who we get a clear vision of in today’s trailer), including Teo Briones (Final Destination Bloodlines), Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home), and Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), are also on-board to join the huge, cheerful Five Nights family.

During a chat back in June, ahead of the arrival of The Life of Chuck, Lillard told Collider’s Perri Nemiroff that the up-to-date movie would be bigger, badder, and scarier than the first, revealing:

“A lot of fans wrote back or chimed in about more action, more jump scares, more of what they loved viscerally about the game, and I think that Scott [Cawthon] and Emma [Tammi] took their time to listen. I think that fans will be excited about part two.”

Stay tuned to Collider for more to come from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
