“I must kill that old wolf.” Well Go USA has revealed an official US trailer for a Korean historical thriller called Harbin, the latest from director Woo Min-ho. This premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival a few months ago, giving it a chance to shine at a film festival before its debut in theaters in the US & also in Korea this winter. In 1909, several years after Korea is forced into becoming a Japanese colony, freedom fighters plot the daring assassination of Japan’s prime minister during their quest for independence. The film tells the true story of the 1909 assassination of Itō Hirobumi – who was the Prime Minister of Japan and former Resident General of Korea. It’s the story of a group of passionate Korean freedom fighters who organized and planned the assassination in opposition to the Japanese rule of Korea. The film stars Hyun Bin, Park Jeong-min, Jo Woo-jin, Jeon Yeo-been, Park Hoon, Yoo Jae-myung, and Lee Dong-wook. This looks gripping & empowering, with good reviews from TIFF to back it up. Keep an eye out for it.
Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Woo Min-ho’s historical film Harbin, direct from YouTube:
Harbin is a period spy movie that revolves around Korean independence activists in the early 1900s who launched a daring attack in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang which is China’s northernmost province. They risked their lives to fight against imperialistic Japanese rule and to achieve Korea’s independence. In Harbin, China, the freedom fighters set upon a daring attack. Harbin, also known as 하얼빈 in Korean, is directed by Korean filmmaker Woo Min-ho, director of the films Man of Vendetta, The Spies, Inside Men, The Drug King, and The Man Standing Next previously. The screenplay is written by Woo Min-ho and Kim Min-seong. It’s produced by Kim Won-guk. This first premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival earlier this year. The film opens initially in Korea + Los Angeles on December 25th, 2024 later this month, then in constrained US theaters starting January 3rd, 2025 right after New Years. Look any good?
