EXCLUSIVE: Screen has obtained the first-look image of Isabelle Fuhrman and Douglas Smith in horror thriller The Pond, which has wrapped production in Northern Ontario.

Myriad Pictures will show first footage to buyers and continue sales talks in TIFF this week.

Jeff Renfroe, whose directing credits include The Colony and SyFy’s Chucky, helms the story about lifelong friends who travel to a remote lake house to celebrate their terminally ill friend. They are horrified to discover she has become a vessel for a predatory parasite that threatens to infect the entire group.

Starring alongside Fuhrman from The Novice and The Hunger Games and Smith from Big Little Lies and Don’t Worry Darling are Gil Bellows, Brandon McKnight, Tattiawna Jones, and Jack Greig.

Toronto-based Rolling Pictures is handling post-production and creature effects for the feature. Ben Brooks and Renfroe co-wrote the screenplay, and Thomas Michael is the producer.

The Pond is a Fella Films production in association with Myriad Pictures, which handles worldwide sales, and is made with the support of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.

Renfroe said: “We built this thing one raw moment at a time. No shortcuts, no hiding. Just an ensemble locked in, scene after scene. It’s the kind of horror that doesn’t need blood to draw it out of you. It lives in the performances, and we caught lightning.”

Michael said: “We emerged from the woods with incredible performances and gorgeous footage.” Myriad Pictures CEO Kirk D’Amico hailed “Jeff Renfroe and Thomas Michael and the outstanding cast and crew who have done a terrific job shooting this smart and emotional horror thriller in Northern Ontario”.
