First Look Teaser for Studio 4°C’s New Film ‘ChaO’ About a Mermaid

Meet Chao! Toei Animation has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the recent anime movie called ChaO, arriving to watch in Japanese theaters this August. ChaO is one of many recent projects in the works from the animation house called Studio 4°C in Japan. They also made Children of the Sea a few years ago, and have the upcoming All You Need Is Kill movie in the work as well. This summer, you can meet a recent generation of mermaid princesses you have never seen before! ChaO is a kind of a witty spin on The Little Mermaid, with quite a few anime twists. A love story between a mermaid and a human, directed by animation veteran Yasuhiro Aoki. The film will star two actors Osamu Suzuka and Anna Yamada. Suzuka voices the role of Stefan, an ordinary businessman who falls for her, and Yamada will play the role of Chao, the princess of the mermaid kingdom who experiences everything on land. This is a hilarious teaser showing the Chao mermaid going wild – watch a movie, trying land food, and everything else. Keep an eye out for this one – it’ll probably show up at many international genre festivals in the fall after opening first in Japan. Should be tons of fun.

ChaO, also known as 『ChaO』 in Japanese not in kanji, is directed by acclaimed Japanese animation filmmaker Yasuhiro Aoki, director of a segment from Batman: Gotham Knight before, and also an animator on A Better Tomorrow, Psycho-Pass: The Movie & more Psycho-Pass series, and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim previously. Featuring character design & lead animation by Yamato Kojima. With art direction by Hiroshi Takiguchi. And music by Takatsugu Muramatsu. Made by animation house Studio 4°C based in Japan. Toei will release Studio 4°C’s ChaO anime movie in theaters starting August 15th, 2025 later this year. No US release has been setup yet. Anyone interested?
