“Should I do a wheelie just for you?” “Too late, man.” Pathé Films has unveiled the first official trailer for the film titled Leave One Day, also known as Partir un jour in French. This already has lots of attention because it’s the first time a feature debut film has been chosen for opening night in the entire history of the Cannes Film Festival. Quite an achievement! Filmmaker Amélie Bonnin adapts her own miniature film in this lively romantic tale of a Parisian woman returning to the village she grew up, where she runs into childhood sweetheart Raphaël. The uplifting musical stars singer / actress Juliette Armanet as Cécile, best known as the performing of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics Games. Co-starring Bastien Bouillon as Raphaël. The film “features musical interludes woven into the narrative, blending French classics with hits by artists such as Stromae and Céline Dion.” Also with Tewfik Jallab, Dominique Blanc, and François Rollin. Aw this looks really sweet and charming and amusing. Seems like Cannes really did pick something fun to kick off the fest this year. I’m excited to see this in Cannes soon.

Cécile (Juliette Armanet) is about to open her own gourmet restaurant and finally realise her dream when she has to rush back home after her father becomes unwell. Far from the hustle and bustle of city life, she stumbles across childhood sweetheart (César Award-winner Bastien Bouillon), her memories resurfacing and certainties shaking… Leave One Day, originally known as Partir un Jour in French or also called Bye Bye, is directed by the French filmmaker Amélie Bonnin, making her feature directorial debut after some episodes of the “Parlement” series and a few other miniature films previously. She’s adapting her own award-winning 2021 miniature film of the same name. The screenplay is written by Amélie Bonnin and Dimitri Lucas. Produced by Bastien Daret, Arthur Goisset, Robin Robles. It’s premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May as the Opening Night Film this year. It also opens in French cinemas starting on June 27th, 2025 later in the summer. No US release date has been set yet – stay tuned for updates & reviews. Look any good?
