Focus Features has confirmed its acquisition of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) horror hit Obsession and will release on an unspecified date in 2026.
The company acquired most of the world excluding France, New Zealand and Russia to Curry Barker’s debut horror about a hopeless romantic who courts supernatural trouble when he breaks the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win over his crush. Universal Pictures International will distribute outside North America.
Obsession premiered in TIFF’s Midnight Madness section and stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter. Focus is understood to have paid in the $10m-$15m range after negotiating the deal with Capstone and CAA Media Finance.
James Harris of Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson of Under The Shell, and Christian Mercuri of Capstone served as producers.
