EXCLUSIVE: Vaneast Pictures founder and former Screen Future Leader Danielle Gasher heads to TIFF next month with international sales rights to upcoming horror film The Confession based on the Pied Piper folk tale.

Will Canon, whose credits include 2010 SXSW Audience Award Winner Brotherhood and 2015 horror Demonic produced by James Wan, wrote and directed the story about a musician and her son who move back to her childhood home when terrifying events unfold.

After she discovers a recording of her deceased father confessing to a shocking murder he claims to have committed to protect himself from an unknown evil force, the woman’s son begins to exhibit increasingly unsettling behavior.

The Confession stars Italia Ricci from Designated Survivor, Scott Mechlowicz from Euro Trip, Zachary Golinger from Barry, and Terence Rosemore from summer hit Superman star.

Rosanna Eden-Ellis of Five By Five Films serves as producer, with Canon and Mark Petersen of Three Folks Pictures handling executive producer duties.

Kevin Iwashina of Metzger Iwashina Media represents US rights.

Vaneast’s Gasher said: “The Confession is a chilling reimagining of the Pied Piper legend anchored by a haunting performance from Italia Ricci.” Canon added: “Danielle is smart and ambitious and has championed our film since she first saw it.”

Gasher previously led acquisitions and international sales at Gravitas Ventures and served as VP of international sales at Voltage Pictures. She was named a Screen Future Leader in 2021.

Vaneast’s slate of upcoming features includes the romantic comedy F*ck Valentine’s Day starring Marisa Tomei, Virginia Gardner, Skylar Astin, and Lil Rel Howery; zombie comedy Hellhound with Tomei, Sam Rockwell, and Chris Messina; thriller What We Hide with McKenna Grace and Dacre Montgomery; and horror title The Grieving from Italian directing trio T3.
