We’re back! Yes, after a whole week off for the Christmas holidays (in which we only dropped a near three-hour-long Review Of The Year special pod), the Empire Podcast is back with a New Year’s resolution of its own — to be a belters only zone, same as every other year! And boy are we making good on that with our first ep of 2025 as Chris Hewitt sits down with not one, not two, not three, but four — yes, FOUR! — incredible guests. First, he talks carousel horses and chocolate with We Live In Time stars Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield [24:27 — 36:32 approx]. Second, he welcomes Nosferatu star Nicholas Hoult over the threshold and back to the pod for a natter in which they discuss embracing fear, giving golf lessons in costume, and Hoult one day taking over the pod [55:19 — 1:11:23 approx]. Third, he has a lovely natter with Giovanni Ribisi about his 15-year overnight success as DP of last year’s excellent Strange Darling, which is available now in various formats for your home viewing pleasure [1:41:51 — 1:57:00 approx].
Then, back in the podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O’Hara and debutante Becky Darke for a fun episode in which the first listener question of the year has the team making bold and no doubt wildly off-kilter box office predictions for 2025. Then, where else to start with news but a gigantic ol’ discussion about Christopher Nolan’s next movie, which has now been confirmed to be an adaptation of Greek mythic epic The Odyssey (and not Draclier, bah!). Elsewhere on news there’s also word on Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Tom Cruise movie (which is coming sooner than we thought), The Batman Part II (which is coming later than we thought), and Jason Momoa landing the Lobo role in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow (which is still coming when we expect it, actually.) All that, and there’s still time for the pod squad to review Nosferatu, Nickel Boys, and We Live In Time, too. What finer way could there be to coax yourself out of your post-Christmas food coma than this, eh? Enjoy.
You can listen to this week’s episode (and over 600 more) on the pod app of your choice.
