Oscar winner Gary Oldman will receive a knighthood and Bafta fellow Samantha Morton an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
Oldman, 67, is honoured for his services to drama. He won the lead actor Academy Award in 2018 for playing Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour and his celebrated roles include Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, and spy master Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses.
The British star broke out in 1986 with his portrayal of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious in Sid And Nancy. He portrayed Dracula for Francis Ford Coppola in the 1992 film of that name, and earned two further Oscar nominations for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in 2012 and Mank in 2021.
Morton is made Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services to drama and charity. Her credits include Lynne Ramsay’s 2002 drama Morvern Callar, Minority Report opposite Tom Cruise, and Oscar nominated turns for Jim Sheridan’s In America (lead) in 2004, and Woody Allen’s Sweet And Lowdown (supporting) in 2000.
Morton broke out in Carine Adler’s 1998 drama Under The Skin, and earned a Bafta TV award in 2010 for The Unloved, which she directed and co-wrote. She received the Bafta Fellowship in 2024.
Also receiving recognition for services to drama are Jeff Pope, who wrote Philomena and produced Stan & Ollie and The Lost King, and Bridgeton and Invictus actress Adjoa Andoh. Both will be made Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Stage veteran Jane Lapotaire is made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to drama. She is a two-time Bafta TV nominee for Blind Justice and Marie Curie and won the Tony for playing Edith Piaf in Piaf in 1981. She lists Grigoris Karantinakis’ 2022 Greek drama Smyrna and Ben Wheatley’s 2020 adaption of Rebecca among her film credits.
