Director Mohamed El Adl Postpones Screening of “The Atheist” Indefinitely

Director Mohamed El Adl announced the postponement of the screening of the film “The Atheist” indefinitely in a post on Facebook.

Reason for Postponement

Mohamed El Adl wrote: “I apologize to all my friends who I invited to the private screening of the movie ‘The Atheist’… The screening will not be held on time… and the movie will not be released on time… and honestly I don’t know why… The answer is with the censor of artistic works.”

Mohamed El Adl added: “The film is ready for screening.. and all stages of editing, mixing, color correction and censorship were completed. I gave it a screening license after months of viewing.. It even got to the point that I filmed an additional scene and producer Ahmed El Sobky spent a lot on advertising the film in the streets based on this license.. and unfortunately he took the advertising back again and this is a huge loss and this completely negates the nonsense that the makers are making cheap advertising for the film.”

Mohamed El Adl used a picture of the script after he obtained a permit from the censorship, which wrote on it, “The film does not distort the Islamic religion at all, but rather reveals the veil on some who interpret Islam according to their whims.”

The director commented, “For the first time, the censorship department has written something resembling thanks and clarification on the last page of the script.”

Producer’s Statement

Ahmed El Sobky had announced the postponement of the film’s release date: “There is no ban at all. The film was postponed for two weeks only because we are completing the mixing and editing work. I have all the censorship permits, and the film has been approved by the censorship. There is no ban at all.”
