In its 29th year, GQ’s Men of the Year awards are boldly entering the streaming era. For the first time in the honor’s nearly three-decade history, the exclusive event will be available to stream live from Los Angeles’s legendary Bar Marmont on Thursday, November 14. The celebration will begin with a rousing musical performance from Shaboozey, who last week picked up six Grammy nominations, include for song of the year for his hit track “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Then GQ’s global editorial director Will Welch will be joined by this year’s starry honorees, including cover star Dwayne Johnson, stand-up comedian John Mulaney, Grammy-winning musician Pharrell Williams, and artists Future and Metro Boomin.
Sound like an invite you’d want to secure? Thankfully, GQ’s Men of the Year soiree will be streamed live both on VF.com and GQ.com, as well as on YouTube, starting at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 14. (Those who prefer to party early can begin logging into the livestream starting at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET.) Event highlights will also be available on GQ’s Instagram and TikTok.
In his cover story for the GQ Men of the Year issue, Johnson talks about his unlikely rise, culminating this fall in two major releases: the Christmas-themed action comedy Red One and the highly anticipated Moana 2. “Before I got to the WWE, I wrestled in a small wrestling company called the USWA,” he tells the magazine. “Those were the days where I was making 40 bucks per match wrestling in flea markets and used-car dealerships in the parking lot. But guaranteed $40! I ate Waffle House three times a day. What you learn there in cutting your teeth in that world of pro wrestling at that level is to do your best to send everybody home happy.”
When Johnson eventually “got into the business of Hollywood and moviemaking, it’s like, Okay, well, what kind of movies do I want to make? I want to make movies that hopefully are good, that don’t suck. But also reach as many people as possible.”
Featuring impassioned speeches from the honorees, GQ’s Men of the Year event will surely be a night to remember. Be sure to catch it on VF.com, GQ.com, or GQ’s YouTube channel.
