Munn and Mulaney held court in the corner of a ’60s-inspired sunken living room at the center of the party, which evoked Hollywood hangouts of a bygone era. They were joined by Nick Kroll, who shook the hand of a nearby Catherine O’Hara as she luxuriously lounged back into a cushioned seat. Tracee Ellis Ross chatted with Ellen Pompeo and Chris Rock eagerly greeted Mary J. Blige beneath a five foot-long diameter custom disco ball glimmering over the festivities.

Time briefly stopped when Kim Kardashian floated into the event in a strapless Balenciaga gown around the same time as Sofia Vergara. After brief hellos to Ross and Pompeo, Kardashian placed her hands in her gown’s functionally chic pockets while speaking with Serena Williams. Mick Jagger lingered near the pair during their catch-up, shaking hands with them both at the first opportunity for an introduction.
At a pre-party dinner, tennis great John McEnroe chatted near the bar with Jagger, who had to make a mad dash from the dinner to the ceremony so he could present the best original song award (“The producers really wanted Bob Dylan to do it!” Jagger quipped from the stage). His speedy jaunt from champagne to ceremony drew gasps from those at the VF dinner: “He was just here!” exclaimed one guest. “Did he take a helicopter?!” said another. Upon Jagger’s return from the Dolby Theatre, there was applause at his table, which was occupied by the likes of Mulaney, Munn, and Hahn. You could say he had moves a little like Jagger.
Before the official arrivals of many of the night’s nominees, Jagger worked the party like it was a concert stage. He conversed with Sydney Sweeney, and was the first attendee to greet and pose for pictures with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, who stayed near the entrance of the party until approached by Derek Blasberg, then Patricia Clarkson and fashion designer Zac Posen.

Guests filtered into the festivities through a set of speakeasy-style doors, passing through a tunnel cloaked in sparkling silver drapery and a makeup Touch Up Bar courtesy of L’Oréal Paris for any eleventh hour beauty emergencies. After ambling through the gold carpeted pathway, attendees entered the main party space through a serpentine hall of mirrors. Deeper inside, Olivia Wilde spoke with Josh Gad and Alex Edelman, whose ex Hannah Einbinder sat alongside Cole Escola, Kate Berlant, and Laverne Cox at a couch near the bar. White Lotus star Leslie Bibb headed into the photo booth with Zoey Deutch, Chelsea Handler, and Danielle Brooks.
Every inch of the high-energy space was filled with buzzy encounters. Brooks fangirled when Conclave’s Ralph Fiennes showed up, even as she grabbed a pizza catered by Mother Wolf chef Evan Funke. (Funke personally prepared five different styles of pizza at a bar in the outdoor courtyard, as well as a custom gelato cart for those with a late-night sweet tooth.) Kyle MacLachlan spoke back to back with Nancy Pelosi, who was outfitted in a pair of tan Chloe sneakers and moving throughout the party with a cane. Keke Palmer FaceTimed a partygoer in waiting, exclaiming, “Girl, we’re waiting on you to drink!” Robert Downey Jr. threw his arm around Jeremy Strong, who lost best supporting actor to his Succession co-star Kieran Culkin.
