After nearly a month of release, James Gunn’s Superman has pulled in over $580 million (and counting) at the global box office. While that’s not a total runaway smash, it has proved a solid hit and a sturdy start to the up-to-date DCU – and it seems the next chapter in the ongoing Superman story is ticking away in Gunn’s brain. We have, of course, already got Supergirl due to arrive in June 2026, having finished filming earlier this summer, while Batman villain horror flick Clayface is going into production next from the DC stable – but, as Gunn said at the premiere of Peacemaker Season 2, he’s making good progress cooking up the next story for Clark Kent and co.

As he told The Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve already finished a treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the Superman Saga,” he said. Previous hints from the DCU’s innovative boss have indicated that it won’t be a straight Superman sequel, but something broader involving the character, and the phrase ‘Superman Saga’ certainly supports that notion. Gunn already has a sturdy idea of what that next chapter will be. “The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked-out treatment,” he told THR, “and I’m hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.” He’s moving faster than a speeding bullet.

For the moment, Peacemaker Season 2 marks the next official chapter in the DCU, following Creature Commandos and Superman. And while there hasn’t been much progress yet, Gunn confirmed that wheels are still turning on the long-announced Amanda Waller series, simply titled Waller. “We’re working on it,” he said. “But you know, some things have moved really fast, and some things not so fast, and that’s been a thing that hasn’t moved so fast. But I can’t wait to see Viola get her Waller outfits on, with her shitty floral dresses, and do something special.” Task Force X, start limbering up.
