Slasher movie fans, rejoice! Following scorching on the heels of this morning’s electrifying news that McKenna Grace has joined Scream VII‘s cast, this evening brings with it a long-expected but finally confirmed casting announcement for another legacy horror franchise reboot — namely, Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel. Per Deadline‘s reporting, OG star Jennifer Love Hewitt has closed a deal to return for the upcoming movie, which Kaytin Robinson has written with Sam Lansky.

Love Hewitt — whose Julie James we last saw still being stalked by hook-wielding menace Ben Willis (Muse Watson) at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer — will be joined by her on-screen husband Freddie Prinze Jr. in the movie, who was confirmed to be reprising his role as Ray Bronson some time ago. And, in the spirit of a true legacyquel, the original cast members are set to be followed into the fray by an electrifying cohort of up-and-coming future cadavers in the shape of Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and live-action Little Mermaid breakout Jonah Hauer-King. Who exactly the recent band of would-be killers/victims will be playing in the movie remains, much as the sequel’s plot is, under wraps for the time being — though it’s a sheltered bet to presume that somebody is going to know what somebody did last summer, and the consequences will likely involve peppy youthful twenty-somethings getting hooked for their troubles along the way.

With recent movies in the Final Destination and Scary Movie franchises currently in the works, and the likes of Scream, Saw, Halloween, and Evil Dead all having been rebooted with mostly positive results in recent years, the time has never been more ripe for the …Summer franchise to be reworked for a contemporary audience. And with this director, this cast, and a speedily approaching 18 July, 2025 release date, we know exactly what we’ll be doing next summer!
