Somehow, it’s been eight long years since we last locked in for a up-to-date white-knuckle movie from action auteur Kathryn Bigelow. And we’ll be forthright, cinema just ain’t quite the same without the director behind The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, Point Break, and more giving us palpitations. And that’s where A House Of Dynamite, Bigelow’s up-to-date — and now officially named — Netflix bound movie, comes in. Set for theatrical release this autumn ahead of a 24 October streaming premiere, Bigelow’s big-screen comeback is a tense-sounding political thriller starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, and Netflix has just declassified a whole bunch of electrifying details on the who’s who and what’s what of the film.

Directed by Bigelow from a script by Zero Day‘s Noah Oppenheim, A House Of Dynamite — whose innovative ranks also include All Quiet On The Western Front composer Volker Bertelmann and Oscar-nominated Hurt Locker DP Barry Ackroyd — centres on the launching of an unattributed missile at the United States and the tense scramble that ensues to identify who’s responsible and respond. Confirmation of the movie’s concept and set-up corroborates THR‘s reporting a few months back, which also went on to state that the unique hook of Bigelow’s movie will be that it all plays out as a real-time thriller, with government officials frantically trying to avert disaster.

What’s more, we also now have the official line-up for A House Of Dynamite in full — and suffice it to say, even Christopher Nolan’s eyebrows would raise at the starry array Bigelow has brought together here. Among the stacked cast are *deep breath* Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, Tracy Letts, Moses Ingram, Anthony Ramos, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Kaitlyn Dever, Willa Fitzgerald, and — in a neat Zero Dark Thirty mini-reunion — the ace Jason Clarke.

And that’s not all, folks, no siree — here’s the dramatic official first poster for the movie;

So, Kathryn Bigelow is back back back, we’re in (potentially real-time) missile crisis thriller territory, and all of the stars are out in force to give our glutes a proper clenching workout. Suffice it to say that, so long as life can hold off on imitating art for another few months at least, we will be seated and ready for A House Of Dynamite when it explodes onto our screens this October…
