Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson are together again—but no longer as Joey Potter and Pacey Witter, the characters they played on the long-running teen drama Dawson’s Creek. Holmes is set to write, direct, and star in Happy Hours, a novel trilogy of feature films she will lead opposite Jackson. The huge cast also features Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, and Donald Webber Jr. Production on the first film will begin in New York this summer, with the second and third installments to follow shortly.

In a press announcement, the trilogy is described as the story of two people—played by Jackson and Holmes—“navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love despite life’s inevitable obstacles. The film is a character driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope.”

Known for her work in blockbuster films such as Christopher Nolan‘s Batman Begins and arthouse films such as Ang Lee‘s The Ice Storm, Holmes has in recent years taken part in independent productions such as Rare Objects and Alone Together, as well as stage roles like a lead in a recent Broadway production of Our Town. Jackson, meanwhile, has starred on a variety of TV series, including Fringe, The Affair, Fatal Attraction, and the recently canceled Doctor Odyssey. Seeing the two actors—who briefly dated early in Dawson’s run—together again is surely a boon to all those who rooted for their characters. But hopefully Happy Hours will not be quite as soapy as the series that launched them.
