You just can’t keep a good Baba Yaga down! Yes, despite Keanu Reeves’ mythic hitman John Wick having seemingly met his maker on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur in John Wick: Chapter 4, it would appear that rumours of Wick’s death have been greatly exaggerated after all. Taking to the stage at CinemaCon earlier today ahead of the release of hotly anticipated Ana de Armas Wickiverse spin-off Ballerina, Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson announced that John Wick 5 is indeed in the works, with Reeves attached to once again star and franchise helmsman Chad Stahelski set to call the shots (and nunchuck hits, and punches, and kicks) as director.

Per THR‘s reporting from CinemaCon, no details have been revealed as of yet regarding the plot of John Wick 5, who else will star alongside Reeves, or indeed when we can expect to see the bearded Bogeyman’s return hit cinemas. But, talking to convention goers, Fogelson did say the following: “Keanu, Chad, Basil [Iwanyk] and Erica [Lee] would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.” Unless someone at Lionsgate was taking notes when we pitched our own idea for a mythological, underworld set Wick sequel (hey, we all have dreams, right?), your guess as to what John Wick 5 will look like is as good as ours. We do however know a little more about some other invigorating additions that are coming to the John Wick Universe.

Alongside the gigantic Reeves return reveal during Lionsgate’s grand presentation, Fogelson also confirmed two other major Wick projects heading our way. First up, Kubo And The Two Strings Shannon Tindle is gearing up to direct an animated John Wick prequel movie, starring Keanu Reeves, that will delve into how Wick completed the Impossible Task — aka, offing all his enemies in a single night in order to leave The High Table. Then, as if that didn’t sound badass enough, we’ve confirmation Donnie Yen will not only star in but direct the Caine spin-off movie that was first announced last May, with The Batman Part II scribe Mattson Tomlin aboard as writer and production on the blind assassin joint due to get underway later this year. All of which is to say that, with Ballerina set to fouetté into cinemas on 7 June, Wick’s candle has never burned brighter.
