Keith Urban Hangs Up on Interviewer Who Asks About Nicole Kidman Sex Scenes

Nicole Kidman is famously fearless onscreen—committing fully to complicated roles in sultry projects like Babygirl and A Family Affair. And in case anyone was wondering, her husband, musician Keith Urban, is on board with her artistic choices. “When Keith is watching her work, he sees it as her art,” a source told the Daily Mail last year. “She is playing characters—she isn’t playing Nicole Kidman.” And Urban, like so many others, loves Nicole Kidman movies: “He removes himself from seeing her as his wife and supports her and enjoys the work.”

Which doesn’t mean that Urban necessarily wants to talk through his feelings about his wife’s sex scenes in a public forum. The Australian radio show Hayley & Max in the Morning recently discovered as much. During a segment titled “Wall of Truth,” host Max Burford asked Urban a personal question. First, he said he had recently watched A Family Affair, which stars Kidman and Zac Efron. “I thought, What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful, younger men like Zac Efron, having those beautiful love scenes on TV and radio?”

Urban didn’t answer. After a brief pause, Burford and cohost Hayley Pearson said that their guest appeared to have disconnected from Zoom.

“Did he just hang up on us?” Pearson asked. “Oh, I knew that would happen! We’ve upset him.”

“We haven’t upset Keith, have we?” said Burford. “I thought we were vibing with Keith.”

“He doesn’t like talking about his wife…because it’s private,” Pearson replied. “He hates us.”

When reached by Vanity Fair, a rep for Urban declined to comment.

For the record, the Daily Mail’s source also said that Urban and Kidman try not to let their children see all their work. “Nicole is not ashamed in any way, but she doesn’t want them to see everything she does. To her kids, she is just mom. Just as much as they aren’t going to every concert their dad puts on. It’s a relief for Nicole knowing that they aren’t privy to some of her more revealing work.”
