Lemohang Mosese’s documentary Ancestral Visions Of The Future is among the eight films that will screen as part of Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors programme, which this year is focused on the African continent.
Open Doors runs during the festival’s industry strand Locarno Pro from August 7-12 and is dedicated to emerging voices from Africa for its upcoming four editions.
Mosse’s film centres around his exiled homeland of Lesotho and premiered in February in the Berlinale Special strand.
Meanwhile Ema Edosio Deelen’s When Nigeria Happens, centred around a group of misfit dancers, is making its world premiere in the Open Doors screenings.
Further titles include Amil Shivji’s Tunisian drama Tug Of War, which became the second ever film to represent the country for best international feature at the Oscars in 2022, and Myriam Birara’s Berlinale 2023 premiere The Bride.
Last month, Locarno unveiled the projects taking part in the Open Doors co-production platform and talent development programme while the festival’s full programme includes the world premeire of Radu Jude’s Dracula.
