Trouble is brewing for a group of strangers in the debut trailer for Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s Bone Lake, where two couples find themselves faced with an impossible decision: cancel their vacations or spend the weekend with two complete strangers. Starring Maddie Hasson (The Recruit), Alex Roe (Hot Summer Nights), Andra Nechita (Cats Dancing on Jupiter), and Marco Pigossi (Gen V), the erotic horror thriller finds its way into cinemas across the U.S. on October 3. Today’s look at the official trailer unveils a web of suspicion, lust, and lies, as four good-looking people watch their lives unfurl into madness thanks to a getaway trip gone horribly wrong.

It’s all fun and games until blood starts to spill in the latest trailer to come from Morgan’s Bone Lake. Laying out the movie’s plot, we learn that two couples — Sage (Hasson) and Diego (Pigossi), and Will (Roe) and Cin (Nechita) — have rented a luxurious home on a sprawling lake for the weekend. What each pair doesn’t realize prior to check-in is that the lodging has been double-booked. Deciding to get cozy with the other couple and share the stay for the next few days, chaos soon unravels for both couples at their once hopeful retreat. Getting close proves to be incredibly simple for each member of the quartet, as we see them playing games and having an all-around good time. That is, until things take a sinister turn and secrets begin to float to the top from under the reflective and still surface of Bone Lake.

While October 3 might be the first time that many of us will be seeing Bone Lake in cinemas, the title previously celebrated its world premiere at last year’s Fantastic Fest and currently holds a near-perfect critics’ score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. During a conversation with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff at last year’s festivities, Morgan gave insight into the film’s plot, describing the mayhem that ensues as the spawn of a “psychosexual, absurd, funny, horror nightmare of a game.”

What’s Next for Mercedes Bryce Morgan?

Bone Lake is far from Morgan’s first venture into filmmaking, as the director previously holds credits behind titles such as the 2022 thriller, Spoonful of Sugar, and episodes of the web miniseries, Stargate Origins. In that same interview with Nemiroff, Morgan gave some insight into what the future holds, revealing that she and LD Entertainment (the team behind Bone Lake) were reteaming for “another movie after this.” Keeping her cards close to her chest, Morgan revealed that it would be another genre flick but would give audiences “something new” from what they’ve seen from her in the past.
