Lock your doors and keep a weapon close because the wait is finally over — The Strangers — Chapter 2 trailer is finally here. The follow-up to the 2024 home invasion film and the latest addition to the franchise is set for a cinematic arrival later this year and fans couldn’t be more excited to unravel the next chapter. Serving as the second part of what will eventually become a trilogy, the movie will pick up directly following the events of the previous film.
When we last left off with final girl, Maya (Madelaine Petsch), she was lying in a hospital bed recovering from the harrowing events that claimed the life of her boyfriend, Ryan (Froy Gutierrez). The final moments of The Strangers: Chapter 1 left things on a bit of a cliffhanger, which means the sophomore installment will likely take off like rocket fuel as Maya tries to escape from her masked pursuers all over again. With everyone in the serene town of Venus, Oregon considered a suspect, expect the paranoia to be fully cranked up to an 11 as we ride along with Maya in her pursuit of survival and safety.
Once again, Renny Harlin returns to the helm as the director for the sequel, having previously lent his talents to The Strangers: Chapter 1, a job he’ll pick back up whenever the trilogy’s bookend goes into production. No stranger to the genre (pun intended), the filmmaker has previously chilled and thrilled audiences with his vision behind such favorites as A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and Exorcist: The Beginning, as well as other classics like Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger. Set to reprise their roles from the first movie, Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy) and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) are slated to return as Gregory and Shelly, respectively.
‘The Strangers — Chapter 2’ Has Some Catching Up To Do
Three months ahead of the sequel’s arrival and the pressure is already on for The Strangers — Chapter 2. The first film in the modern trilogy received mixed feedback from critics and audiences — although both sets of reviews were penniless, the latter just wasn’t quite as harsh. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film sits with a 21% critics’ approval rating, while viewers eased up and gave the production a little bit of mercy with a 44% approval rating. Though a third installment is fully on Lionsgate’s radar, we’d imagine that the haste with which it arrives will fully depend on the success of the sequel.
