As we learned in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire, McKenna Grace ain’t afraid of no ghosts. But what about Ghostfaces? Well, we’ll soon see as, per Deadline‘s reporting, the GCU’s Phoebe Spengler is set to swap Slimers for slashers as she becomes the latest actor to board director Kevin Williamson and writer Guy Busick’s upcoming Scream VII. She joins previously announced franchise returnee Neve Campbell, who’ll be reprising her role as multiple-time Woodsboro survivor Sidney Prescott, and newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor and Asa Germann.
We don’t know who Grace will play in the next instalment in the Scream franchise just yet, or anyone other than Campbell for that matter, but we do know Sid has had three kids with husband Mark (Patrick Dempsey, who’s keen to reprise his Scream III role) — none of whom we’ve actually met yet on-screen. Isabel May is expected to play one of Sid’s daughters though, and Grace would potentially fit the mould to play the other daughter of the Prescott clan. At this stage however, with no logline locked in, unconfirmed rumours still swirling about Courtney Cox’s return as Gale Weathers, and over a year to go before the movie actually hits our screens, there’s plenty of time yet for all to become clear as the Ghostface killer readies his/her/their murderous return.
The last year or so for the Scream franchise has been, you could fairly say, a somewhat tumultuous one. Since last November, we have seen producers Spyglass Films drop the rebooted series’ lead Melissa Barrera over her support for Palestine, lose its co-lead Jenna Ortega very shortly thereafter, and then also have director Christopher Landon walk away from Scream VII to boot, throwing the iconic horror saga’s future up in the air. But now, with Williamson back at the helm, Campbell returning, and an thrilling adolescent cast assembling for a recent chapter in the chronicles of Woodsboro’s most infamous killer(s), it looks like we may yet have a scary movie (but not a Scary Movie — not yet, anyway) on our hands when 27 February, 2026 rolls around. And we do like scary movies. Now, if you’ll excuse us, the phone’s just ringing and we should probably answer…
