Another live-action Disney movie came and went this year after Marc Webb’s Snow White proved to lack the energy to snap out of its eternal sleep at the box office. But, in the shadow of the Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot-led film, another rises to take its place. And, with a much darker version of the classic tale, we’d imagine that the film, The Death of Snow White, would receive a stamp of approval from the Brothers Grimm. Today, Collider is thrilled to debut the exclusive first look at the trailer for the Jason Brooks (Friday the 13th: Vengeance)-helmed production that features Chelsea Edmundson (The Iron Claw) as the Evil Queen and Sanae Loutsis as Snow White.

Life is nothing but a fairytale for Snow White at the beginning of the trailer. She’s clearly enjoying a life of wonder and beauty as she dances through the woods with her beau — that is until she’s force-fed a poisonous apple. Teasing the plot (which, by the way, appears to go from zero to sixty in a matter of minutes), the first-look sees a blood-soaked Snow White prepared to do everything in her power to protect those closest to her. And, when it comes to her guard of dwarves, they are anything but joyful, bashful, and sleepy. Instead, they’re axe-wielding psychopaths who harness what seem to be magical capabilities with one directive in mind — protect Snow White from the soul-sucking Evil Queen at all costs.

In addition to the two ladies fighting it out to uncover who the fairest of them all truly is, The Death of Snow White also boasts an ensemble cast filled out by Tristan Nokes (King Richard), Meredith Binder (Stars), Risa Mei (Zenless Zone Zero), Ali Chapman (Better Things), Jeremy Hallam (Hacks), Michael De Santo II (The Contract), Colin Miller, Eric Pope (The Suicide Pact), Kelly Tappan (The Day I Met Joshua), and more. In addition to directing, Brooks also co-penned the script for the sadistic take on the classic fairytale alongside Naomi Mechem-Miller, with the pair previously having worked alongside one another on the other side of the camera in Revenge of the Boogeyman.

The Horror Takeover of Public Domain Continues

The Death of Snow White is far from the first project to reimagine a childhood favorite and put a twisted, adult-rated spin on it. Over the last few years, we’ve seen a rush on this type of content, with up-to-date favorites of yesteryear entering the public domain on a seemingly daily basis. From the recently released Screamboat to the ever-growing Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey franchise, none of your cherished characters are safe and sound from the blood-soaked takeover.
