Mysterious Teaser for ‘Mother’s Baby’ Thriller with Marie Leuenberger

“Georg, something’s not right here.” The Match Factory has revealed a teaser trailer for a mystery thriller film titled Mother’s Baby, made by Austrian filmmaker Johanna Moder. This just premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival a few days ago, and will likely play at more film festivals this the year before hitting theaters. An unsettling film about a up-to-date mother. Julia, a successful conductor, and her partner Georg would like to have a child when Dr. Vilfort offers them hope. Julia becomes pregnant at the doctor’s private clinic in Vienna. The birth does not go well and the baby is immediately taken away, leaving Julia and Georg in the shadowy about what has happened. When finally reunited with the child a day later, Julia feels strangely distant. She begins to doubt whether it is really her child… The especially talented Swiss-German actress Marie Leuenberger (from The Divine Order) stars as Julia, with Hans Löw as her husband, Claes Bang as her creepy doctor, and Julia Franz Richter as a creepy midwife. I caught this at Berlinale and it’s very good – a captivating little film about motherhood with especially eerie vibes as she tries to figure out what actually happened. Is it really her baby? Or is it something else? Keep an eye out for this – I recommend watching it.

Julia becomes pregnant after successful treatment at the clinic. However, the birth does not go as planned and the baby is immediately taken away for additional treatment, leaving Julia and her husband in the dark about what has happened. When Julia is finally reunited with the child, she feels strangely distant. Its presence puts a strain on their marriage as it becomes clear that Julia has doubts about whether the baby they have brought home is really hers…” Mother’s Baby is directed by the Austrian filmmaker Johanna Moder, of the movies High Performance, Once Were Rebels, and Ewig Dein previously. The screenplay is written by Arne Kohlweyer and Johanna Moder. Produced by Sabine Moser and Oliver Neumann. This just premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival this month.
