New Trailer for Post-Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Woken’ with Erin Kellyman

“Oh, Anna… you are our greatest success.” Dark Sky Films has revealed the official trailer for a mystery thriller called Woken, an Irish production that’s the feature directorial debut of director Alan Friel. This is another film that originally premiered a few years ago – back at the 2023 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, and 2024 Dublin Film Festival – finally getting released this year. A woman who wakes up from an accident with no memory of who she is, and the realisation that the human race is close to extinction. Oh wait, okay? What is really going on? The film stars Erin Kellyman as Anna, with Maxine Peake, Ivanno Jeremiah, Corrado Invernizzi, and Peter McDonald. Anna is being nursed back to health by Helen and Peter on a remote island in the North Sea after waking up with no memory, pregnant, and in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. This looks a bit like a more horror take on Children of Men, obviously something is going on with his baby being the only one that’s still growing. This looks intriguing enough, might end up worth watching.

“Open your eyes. Fear the future.” In a post-apocalyptic world, this isle provides a protected haven from a pandemic that has decimated earth. Anna (Erin Kellyman) wakes up pregnant and unable to remember who her husband is. Nor does Anna recognize Helen and Peter who are supposedly helping her get her health back. Disbelief in what she is being told leads to a horrible revelation and Anna having to contend with existential issues brought on by man’s destruction of the planet. Woken is directed by the Irish genre filmmaker Alan Friel, making his feature directorial debut after a few other miniature films & commercials previously. The screenplay is from Alan Friel and Rebecca Pollock. It’s produced by Deirdre Levins, Brendan McCarthy, John McDonnell. With support from the Italian Ministry of Culture. This initially premiered at the 2023 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival a few years ago. Dark Sky Films will debut Friel’s Woken horror thriller in select US theaters + on VOD starting July 18th, 2025 this summer. Look good? Who’s curious?
