“Just can’t let the past get you down.” 🇮🇪 WildCard Distribution has unveiled the official Irish trailer for an indie film titled Christy, marking the feature directorial debut of Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty – who looks to be a very talented filmmaker. This originally premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and it next plays at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and Galway Film Fleadh. Two estranged brothers with checkered childhoods in the care system suddenly find themselves living under the same roof in Cork. They must now reconcile with their pasts and make decisions about the future. “Bursting with humour, soul, and raw authenticity,” the film stars breakout talents Danny Power and Diarmuid Noyes, alongside a brilliant Irish ensemble including Emma Willis, Alison Oliver, Chris Walley, and Helen Behan. The film also features members of Cork’s Kabin Studio, the arts collective behind the song “The Spark” heard in this trailer. Described as “a heartwarming story of second chances, connection, and finding your place in the world.” Opening in Ireland first in August, and hopefully in the US not longer after. Keep an eye out for this.

17-year-old Christy (starring Daniel Power) is at a crossroads. Kicked out of his suburban foster home, he moves in with his estranged older brother Shane (Diarmuid Noyes) and his juvenile family. As far as Shane is concerned this is a momentary arrangement, but Christy begins to feel at home on Cork’s working-class Northside. As he makes novel friends and begins to let the community in, he also reconnects with his past through his seemingly more corrupting extended family, despite his brother Shane’s efforts to protect him. Shane wants something better for Christy at any cost – even if it means he has to push him away. As the brothers look to reconcile their turbulent past, their family and the community around them offer hope for Christy’s future. Christy is directed by the Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty, making his feature directorial debut after various shorts & music videos previously. The screenplay is written by Alan O’Gorman. Produced by Marina Brackenbury, Meredith Duff, and Rory Gilmartin. This initially premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. WildCard will debut Canty’s Christy film in Irish cinemas starting August 29th, 2025, and also in the UK on September 5th coming soon. No US release date has been set yet. Any good?
