“How do we break out of this dilemma?” GKids has revealed the first official trailer for an animation sequel titled The Legend of Hei 2, another box office hit in China along with the other animated sequel this year Ne Zha 2. This tells the story of a “new mission” from the Monster Hall. Faced with a series of mysteries, Xiaohei and his senior sister Luye embark on a novel adventure to find the truth. The original The Legend of Hei (featuring a super cute black cat) was released back in 2019 – the cat is actually the wood sprite Xiaohei. With gorgeous, hand-drawn animation from the directors MTJJ & Gu Jie, The Legend of Hei 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2019 film, delivering an emotional and action-packed story that will resonate with audiences novel and returning. It opened in China already last month and currently holds the highest score among Chinese theatrical releases in 2025 with a Douban rating of 8.7. Following Luo Xiaohei’s captivating journey as he confronts a novel crisis following an attack on a formidable guild, exploring themes of resilience and friendship. Starring the voices of Xin Shan as Luo Xiaohei, Mingyue Liu as Wuxian, Chenyang Fu, Zhenji Huang, and Lu Li. Some fun footage in this trailer. It’s set to hit US theaters in November this fall.

The Legend of Hei 2 is a follow up to the 2019 feature The Legend of Hei. Both the original feature The Legend of Hei and its sequel The Legend of Hei 2 are derived from the animated series The Legend of Luo Xiaohei, which was created by the Chinese animation studio Hanmu Chunhua (HMCH) in 2011. When an attack shatters the frail peace between the spirit world and humanity, Hei teams up with Luye, the last disciple of his Shifu Wuxian, to expose a conspiracy that threatens both realms – and the bond they’ve sworn to protect. The Legend of Hei 2, also known as 罗小黑战记2 or Luo Xiaohei Zhan Ji 2 in Mandarin, is directed by filmmakers MTJJ Mutou (director of the first The Legend of Hei film and “All Saints Street” series) & Gu Jie. The screenplay is by Kexin Peng, Fengxishenlei, MTJJ Mutou. Produced by HMCH. The film already opened in China in July 2025 this summer – earning ~$49 million in its release. GKids debuts The Legend of Hei 2 sequel in US theaters starting November 7th, 2025 this fall. Anyone want to watch?
