“I hate it here. I love it here. What if I’m forgotten.” Mubi has posted their official trailer for an indie film titled Tendaberry, set in Brooklyn made by an American filmmaker named Haley Elizabeth Anderson as her feature directorial debut. This originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival last year, and can now be watched via streaming on Mubi’s platform. Tendaberry offers an unflinching look at resilience and identity in contemporary America. In Coney Island, an adrift newborn woman must navigate an uncertain path alone after her boyfriend Yuri must leave to go home to his family in war-torn Ukraine. “Charting the four seasons of a magnetic young woman unsettled by change, Tendaberry composes an urban symphony in the key of love.” The film was significantly inspired by the music on the “Wildflower” album by The Avalanches. This stars Kota Johan as 23-year-old Dakota, along with Yuri Pleskun, Mike Donovan, and Janice Dias. This earned mostly good reviews though it’s a very experimental film – it’s definitely not for everyone.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Haley Elizabeth Anderson’s film Tendaberry, direct from YouTube:

A striking portrait of a newborn woman’s life told in four parts, Tendaberry is the dazzling, unconventional debut feature of Haley Elizabeth Anderson. Set in post-pandemic South Brooklyn, NYC, the film focuses on Dakota (Koda Johan), a 22-year-old Dominican American woman trying to find her way during her first year in New York City. She finds stability with a newborn man from Coney Island named Yuri, but when he goes home to Ukraine for a family illness, the war begins and he is called in a different direction. Dakota is left to navigate the challenging realities on her own, from pregnancy to finances to personal safety. Tendaberry is written and directed by American indie filmmaker Haley Elizabeth Anderson, now making her feature directorial debut after a few other miniature films previously. It’s produced by Daniel Patrick Carbone, Hannah Dweck, Matthew Petock, Theodore Schaefer, Zachary Shedd, Carlos Zozaya, Haley Elizabeth Anderson. This initially premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Mubi will release Tendaberry streaming worldwide on Mubi starting April 25th, 2025 this spring – it’s available to watch now.
