Marc Maron (The Bad Guys) spends a solid 30 seconds roasting Owen Wilson (Loki) at the top of the trailer for Stick, perfectly setting the tone for the upcoming Apple TV+ series. His latest project sees Wilson in a role that would make Don, Mobius’ jet-ski-enthusiast Loki variant, proud. Also executive producing the series, Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, an ex-pro golfer whose career came to a screeching halt two decades ago — but you’ll hear more about that from Maron’s character in the trailer. This is the first teaser to arrive for the sports comedy, giving audiences a taste of what’s to come when the title tees off with a three-episode premiere on Wednesday, June 4.

As mentioned, the first 30 seconds of the trailer see Maron’s character completely obliterating Wilson’s Pryce Cahill while the two sit at a full bar. Rehashing the very moment that Pryce’s golfing career went down the tubes, the fellow pub patron details the saddest moment in the ex-golfer’s history. In his daily life, Pryce is unhappy with his job at a sporting goods store in Indiana and finds himself arguing with his soon-to-be ex-wife during their divorce negotiations. When he stumbles upon a blossoming teenage talent named Santi (Peter Dager), Pryce goes out of his way to inspire the teenage man to become a champion golfer.

Filling out Stick’s primary ensemble is an impressive lineup that also includes Judy Greer (Arrested Development), Mariana Treviño (A Man Called Otto), Lilli Kay (Your Honor), and Timothy Olyphant (Scream 2). Pulling in real-life professionals from the sport, the series will also include guest spots by Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, and more. Other special cameos see some of the most familiar faces in the broadcasting game swing by, with appearances from Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman, Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke, and Garrett Clark, in addition to golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport. Essentially, this is one for the true lovers of the game who can also get behind a hefty side helping of comedy and friendship.

Who Is Behind ‘Stick’?

As mentioned, Wilson will not only star in the series but will also executive produce. He’ll be joined in the latter by the project’s creator and showrunner, Jason Keller, Propagate Content’s Ben Silverman and Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, as well as Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Drew Buckley, Lee Eisenberg, Natalie Sandy, Christopher Moynihan, Bill Callahan, Valerie Faris, Jonathan Dayton, and Jaffar Mahmood. The latter three also join the production as directors alongside David Dobkin, M.J. Delaney, and John Hamburg.

Check out the trailer for Stick above and tune into Apple TV+ for the first three episodes on June 4.
