Pedro Pascal fans have had to endure some pain recently after watching The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 2, but now his next project just got an electrifying recent look to ease the suffering. And no, we’re not talking about The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Pascal will star alongside Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson in Materialists, the upcoming romantic comedy following a matchmaker whose business lands her in the middle of a hot love triangle between her perfect ex and her imperfect ex. A24 has officially released the recent trailer for Materialists, which will debut exclusively in theaters on June 13. The recent trailer for the film brings the audience back to the classic days of romantic comedies in New York City.

Materialists was written and directed for the screen by Celine Song. Song is best known for her work on Past Lives, the Oscar-nominated film starring Greta Lee opposite Teo Yoo and John Magaro. Song also served as a staff writer on the first season of The Wheel of Time, the fantasy series that has run for three seasons on Prime Video. Past Lives is what put Song on the map in 2023, and while she was completely absent from the screen in 2024, Materialists will mark her return to filmmaking after a year away. Collider debuted an exclusive image from Materialists not long ago of Dakota Johnson standing in the streets of New York. Materialists will be Johnson’s first major feature role since starring opposite Sydney Sweeney in Madame Web, the critically maligned Sony Marvel movie that’s currently streaming on Netflix and available to rent or purchase on Prime Video.

The second highest-rated film of Johnson’s career, according to critics, is The Lost Daughter, but although it earned a nearly flawless 94% from critics, general audiences were much harsher on the film, reviewing it at a 56% clip. A Bigger Splash is the third-highest-grossing movie of Johnson’s career at 39%, despite holding a general audience score of 58%.
