If you’re a fan of action carnage, frankly you’ve been eating well for the last decade-plus. But beyond the likes of John Wick and Nobody, one cinematic one-man-army still feels like a much-whispered myth, a cult phenomenon just waiting to be discovered by a bigger audience of bloodthirsty adrenaline junkies. That would be Aatami, the lead of Sisu, Jalmari Helander’s head-explodingly violent revenge movie that pitched Jorma Tommila’s gold-panning wanderer against a swathe of Nazis. If Sisu passed you by, now’s the time to get caught up – because Helander and Tommila are back with Sisu: Road To Revenge, a sequel that continues Aatami’s journey in substantial, bloody fashion.

Yes, please. Where Sisu was set in 1944, this one moves the action on two years, beyond the end of World War II – meaning the Nazis are out, and the Soviet Union is in. By which we mean, in for some stern pain. Best of all, Road To Revenge will introducing a up-to-date nemesis for Aatami: Avatar legend Stephen Lang as Red Army commander Igor Draganov, a very personal villain for our hero. Here’s the official synopsis: “Returning to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the war,

‘the man who refuses to die’ dismantles it, loads it on a truck, and is determined to rebuild it somewhere secure in their honour. When the Red Army commander who killed his family comes back hellbent on finishing the job, a relentless, eye-popping cross-country chase ensues – a fight to the death, full of clever, unbelievable action set pieces.”

Since the first Sisu was such a stripped-down, amped-up treat, hopes are high that Helander can keep the carnage coming in the second chapter. Sisu: Road To Revenge will be painting UK cinemas red on 21 November.
