The film is produced by Tomi Salkovski for North Macedonia’s Black Cat Production, in co-production with Serbia’s Art&Popcorn and Slovenia’s December.
The Sarajevo selection includes eight fiction features, and three documentary or hybrid titles.
One of the latter group is Yassine Marco Marroccu’s documentary-fiction hybrid Alkebulan, about a journey to rescue a sacred amulet from a shipwreck on the Saharan coastline in the turbulent wake of African independence. Andrea Taschler produces for Hungary’s Mirage Film Studio, with Morocco’s Eclipse Films.
The selection also includes Israel-Germany co-production Where To?, a tragicomedy about a Palestinian Uber driver in Berlin and a youthful Israeli who gets lost in the city.
The films will compete for €120,000 of prizes, including up-to-date €30,000 cash HBO award, providing completion funding and a guaranteed broadcast window; and a up-to-date €30,000 in-kind Avanpost Media award. Returning awards include Think-Film Impact Production’s CineLink Impact award, also open to Docu Rough Cut Boutique projects.
The projects will be presented to industry professionals including funders, sales agents, distributors, broadcasters and festival programmers.
Sarajevo Film Festival runs from August 15-22.
