Sarajevo Film Festival has selected modern feature projects from Hilal Baydarov and David Kapac among the first titles for its Co-Production Market.

Eight projects will participate in the CineLink Workshop from June 16-20, while one – The Flowering of a Chimera – is in the CineLink Co-Production Market from August 16-21. The programme includes script development support through consultations and expert-led sessions.

Azeri filmmaker Baydarov will present Stone Over Stone, in which a juvenile couple living and working on a decaying construction site struggle to secure a hopeful future for their unborn child. Written by Baydarov and Georg Tiller, the film is produced by Maeva Ranaivojaona, Tiller and Baydarov for Austria’s Subobscura Films, in co-production with Azerbaijan’s Ucqar Film.

Also selected is Pogana from Croatian filmmaker David Kapac – a drama set on a Dalmatian island in the 1920s, in which a woman is left at the mercy of local villagers when her modern sailor husband is lost at sea. Written by Andrija Mardesic and Kapac, the film is produced by Rea Rajcic and Tina Tisljar for Croatia’s Eclectica, in co-production with Slovenia’s Vertigo.

The selection also includes Places Half Empty, a portrait of a queer relationship in the context of right-wing leader Viktor Orban’s Hungary, directed by Dorka Vermes and written by Sara Torley-Havas.

The Co-Production Market awards €66,000 in prizes, including the €20,000 Eurimages Co-Production Development award; and €20,000 CineLink Female Voices award.

The Co-Production Market is part of the CineLink Industry Days, which has also chosen seven drama series from Southeast Europe for its CineLink Drama workshop strand.

Titles include Asimina Proedrou’s political thriller Beneath The Surface from Greece, in which a juvenile woman in Athens, a former Balkan soldier and a US executive, all connected by the international metals trade, make choices that spark a global collapse.

Further titles for the Industry Days, including Co-Production Market selections, will be announced in the coming weeks. The 2025 Sarajevo Film Festival will run from August 15 to 22.
