Screen International has appointed Nikki Baughan to the role of reviews editor, while Wendy Ide has been named senior international critic.

Baughan has been writing for Screen since 2014, including stints as a contributing editor and as supplements editor. She was appointed deputy reviews editor in 2022, working closely with long-time reviews editor Fionnuala Halligan who left the title in June to become director of international programmes at Red Sea International Film Festival.

Before joining Screen, Baughan was a former editor of movieScope and Film Review magazines, and has previously contributed to various print and online publications including Sight and Sound and The List.

Baughan takes up the role with immediate effect, and will report to editor-in-chief Matt Mueller.

Ide joined Screen as a UK-based critic in 2015, and since then has travelled to cover festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Rotterdam, Tokyo, Tallinn Black Nights and CPH:DOX.

In her capacity as senior international critic, Ide will bring her extensive knowledge of international cinema and festivals to work alongside Baughan and Screen’s LA-based senior US critic Tim Grierson in helping to shape and curate Screen’s market-leading reviews coverage.

All three will also contribute comment pieces and other writing throughout the year, and will also participate in Screen’s awards season podcast.

Baughan said: “It has been a privilege to have worked alongside Finn over the past few years, and I am immensely proud of all we have done to grow and strengthen the Screen reviews desk. I am thrilled to be stepping into the role of reviews editor, and look forward to working with Wendy, Tim and our team of leading international critics to ensure our reviews remain a respected and trusted industry resource.”

Mueller said: “I am delighted to appoint Nikki to the crucial role of reviews editor. Having been part of the Screen family for more than a decade, she is a hugely experienced writer and editor who is ready to step up and guide our reviews coverage to the next level. I’m also thrilled to have Wendy taking on an expanded role as senior international critic. With Nikki, Wendy and Tim Grierson working together, our reviews are in the best hands possible to keep Screen as the essential voice of the international film industry.”
