The film follows Dene Michael, the former lead singer of Black Lace – best known for novelty party records – on a journey with his partner and aging mother as he attempts a comeback.

It is produced by the UK’s Labor of Love Films production in association with Tigerlily Two and One Wave Films, with Margareta Szabo producing.

Nikki Parrott serves as an executive producer and Nan Davies as a co-producer. Additional executive producers include Luke W. Moody, Mark Thomas, Dani Carlaw, Kiah Simpson, Kim Warner, Caroline Cooper Charles, and Herbert Lockwood.

Describing the film, Hopkins said: “Still Pushing Pineapples explores the resilience and humanity of Dene, who embodies the spirit of ordinary working-class people amid a crumbling industrial disorder.”

Sheffield DocFest runs June 18-23.
