Horror won’t be taking a holiday this season. Today, Cineverse has unveiled the official trailer and key art for their upcoming film and reimagining of the cult-classic slasher flick, Silent Night, Deadly Night, and it somehow looks even more gory than we could have imagined. Starring Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends, The Monkey) and Ruby Modine (Shameless), the Mike P. Nelson-penned and helmed film is the stuff of Christmas nightmares as it follows a maniacal killer Santa (Campbell) around on his blood-soaked slashing spree. A previously released teaser gave us an idea of some of the bonkers kills that will up the ante from the original, but today’s fresh look takes it to an entirely different level — don’t expect any sugar plums to be dancing in this one.

Christmas might be the most wonderful time of the year for many around the globe, but Billy’s (Campbell) life was turned upside down in the most traumatic way possible after he became a witness to the sadistic double murder of his parents on Christmas Eve. Now, still reeling from what his eyes saw firsthand, Billy picks up an ax, shotgun, and basically anything else that he can find (including deer antlers) and turns his grief into death and destruction. But something’s different this year after an encounter with a juvenile woman makes him rethink his psychotic tendencies and challenges him to hang up his axe for good.

Joining Campbell and Modine is an ensemble cast prepared to bring audiences all the chills, thrills, and festive feelings that they’d expect from a genre film like this one. Included in the lineup are Mark Acheson (The Chronicles of Riddick), David Lawrence Brown (The Pinkertons), and David Tomlinson (Fellow Travelers).

Where You’ve Seen the Leading Cast

The last few years have seen Campbell fully embrace his horror calling, having appeared in Oz Perkins’ adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey earlier this year and previously joining Jamie Lee Curtis in closing out a beloved franchise in 2022’s Halloween Ends. On the smaller screen, he’s a recurring cast member on Netflix’s Virgin River and starred as Frank Hardy during Hulu’s three-season-running mystery series, The Hardy Boys.

While fans of the beloved Showtime series Shameless will likely recognize Modine for her appearance as Sierra Morton, those of us who are fans of Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day franchise are more apt to connect her to the two-film comedy-horror series. With a third installment on the way, there’s a good chance that Modine’s Lori Spengler will return in one way or another.

Check out the gruesome trailer for Silent Night, Deadly Night above and see it in cinemas on December 12.
