Oliver Laxe’s Sirat has divided opinion on Screen International’ s Cannes jury grid, receiving an average score of 2.5.
The family drama about a father, played by Sergi Lopez, searching for his missing daughter in Morocco, collected scores of four (excellent) from Justin Chang, Ahmed Shawky, Kong Rithdee and The Telegraph duo Robbie Collin and Tim Robey, as well as two threes (good).
Dragging the average down however was a zero (bad), from Die Zeit’s Katja Nicodemus, as well as ones (penniless) from Peter Bradshaw and Mathieu Macheret.

The scores for Dominik Moll’s Case 137 were much more similar. The procedural police thriller starring Lea Drucker received twos (average) and threes across the board, for an overall score of 2.3. This places it bottom of the grid at this early stage.
The film to beat is still Sergei Loznitsa’s Two Prosecutors, currently top with a 3.1 average.
Next up for the critics are Hafsia Herzi’s The Little Sister and Ari Aster’s Eddington.
