DC Studios’ Superman Movie Wraps Production

James Gunn, the co-head honcho of DC Studios, has announced that he has finished shooting his first DCU movie, "Superman". The movie, which marks the dawn of a new era for the legendary comic imprint on the big screen, wraps production with a heartfelt message from Gunn.

The Wrap-up

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, Gunn paid tribute to his cast and crew, sharing a behind-the-scenes photo taken on the first week of filming. The post reads: "God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor."

The Cast

The movie’s starry ensemble includes David Corenswet as Man of Steel, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El (a.k.a. Supergirl), Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion.

The Inspiration

Gunn has cited several inspirations for his take on the Kryptonian superhero, including Richard Donner’s "Superman" and comic runs like "All-Star Superman", Grant Morrison’s New 52 "Action Comics", and "Thy Kingdom Come". Although precious little is known about the plot of the movie at this stage, we can expect a good man in a world that isn’t always so much.

What’s Next?

After the DCEU’s unceremonious ending last year, Gunn will be hoping to get his new-look DC Universe off to a flying start with "Superman", the last son of Krypton’s first solo movie since Zack Snyder’s "Man of Steel" over a decade ago. The movie is set to hit cinemas on July 11, 2025.
