Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) is stepping into the ring today thanks to the arrival of the official trailer for her upcoming sports biopic, Christy. Just one week after celebrating its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the trailer has come to pull a one-two punch and knock audiences out of their previously held expectations of the David Michôd-helmed and co-penned film. Set for a release on November 7, 2025, the Black Bear Pictures flick is eying up award season buzz as Sweeney transforms herself into the world-class fighting machine Christy Martin.
Aptly set to the sounds of Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen”, the trailer for Christy opens on an aerial view of Las Vegas, where Sweeney’s titular boxer first meets boxing promoter, Don King (Chad L. Coleman). As she talks about herself, we see glimpses into the up-and-coming sports star’s life, including an introduction to her iconic pink uniform. From one knock out (and USA-themed outfit) to the next, we see Christy climbing the ranks towards becoming the hardest-to-beat female boxer on the planet. Eventually meeting her match, Christy’s life is flipped upside down when she realizes there is still plenty of real competition out there. With her life taking a nose-dive, the sports superstar is forced to come to terms with her choices, all while thwarting her spouse’s attempts to take her life.
In addition to Sweeney and Coleman, the cast with their eyes set on the award-season prize includes Ben Foster (Six Feet Under), Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), Ethan Embry (Alma and the Wolf), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones), Bryan Hibbard (Cobra Kai), Jess Gabor (Shameless) and Bill Kelly (Where the Crawdads Sing).
What Else Does Sydney Sweeney Have in the Works?
In addition to Christy, this year has seen the arrival of a handful of other projects for Sweeney, including the Ron Howard-helmed true crime drama, Eden, and Michael Pearce’s Apple TV+ film, Echo Valley. Beyond her role as one of boxing’s biggest legends, Sweeney is set to appear alongside a stacked cast that includes Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body), Brandon Sklenar (It Ends with Us), and Michele Morrone (Another Simple Favor) in the latest project to come from Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) — a psychological thriller titled The Housemaid.
See Sweeney step into the ring and into the life of Martin in the official trailer for Christy above, and see it in cinemas on November 7.
