If you’re expecting Taylor Swift to stride through the tunnels of Missouri’s Arrowhead stadium today, primed to watch Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce square up against the Los Angeles Chargers, you haven’t been paying attention. While the billionaire singer surely wishes her boyfriend and the rest of the team the best, she has far bigger fish to fry on Sunday: Her Eras Tour, which for a year has held the record as the highest-grossing concert series of all time, plays its last show tonight. But after that, the world’s dads, Brads, and Chads should probably brace for a lot of Taylor Swift appearances, at least at Chiefs home games.
The tour, which began in Glendale, Arizona on March 17, 2023, ends on Sunday at Vancouver, Canada’s BC Place Stadium. At Friday’s concert, Swift noted this weekend’s significance, telling the crowd, “This has been the greatest last Friday night of the tour that I could have ever imagined with you.” USA TODAY also notes that since her stint in Vancouver began, Swift has done a one-handed countdown while singing “Midnight Rain,” reducing the fingers held up as the dates dwindled.
“I’m just feeling so overjoyed that we decided to spend our last couple of shows in Vancouver,” an X (formerly Twitter) user shared from the Friday show. “You’re so unbelievable. I love you so much. Aw, my face hurts from grinning. Thank you for that moment. That’s the best!”
According to a Pollstar report from December 2023, the tour was the first ever to generate $1 billion, making it the most lucrative series of shows of all time—and that’s based on box office numbers from a year ago. It’s obviously still too early to tabulate the full economic impact of the tour, but we do know that on its first leg across the US, concertgoers spent (on average) around $1,300 each on lodging, dining, and travel. That’s a statistic about triple the expenditure from other tours, or, to put it in terms Swift’s boyfriend might find relatable, each tour stop is comparable to the revenue generated during the Super Bowl.
Speaking of Kelce, he’s expected to be just fine during tonight’s game against the Chargers, with most pundits predicting a Chiefs win. That game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET, a little more than an hour before Swift takes the stage for the final Eras Tour show at 6:45 local time (9:45 ET).
That’s the last time for a while that the couple’s public commitments will conflict, but it’s not a sure thing that Swift will be at every Chiefs game from here on out, given previously expressed security concerns that might restrict her away game participation. The Chiefs’ next game, which will be played on Sunday, December 15, against the Cleveland Browns, is at Ohio’s Huntington Bank Field, so Swift might take a well-deserved break from everything to skip it.
But the next Sunday, December 21, the Chiefs play at home against the Houston Texans, and you can bet Swift’s fans will be glued to their screens well before the 11 a.m. ET kickoff to see if she arrives. The next question—will Taylor and Travis spend Christmas together?—remains a mystery, as he’s on the clock against the Pittsburgh Steelers as of 11 a.m., in a game played at the Steelers’ home of Acrisure Stadium. The team’s final regular season game, against the Denver Broncos, will also be an away game, at Mile High Stadium. The date of that game has yet to be determined, as is Swift’s possible attendance.
