Focus Features has set a March 28 narrow release for The Ballad of Wallis Island, which is set to have its world premiere at this month’s Sundance Film Festival.
Pic follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island and dreams of getting his favorite musicians, McGwyer Mortimer (Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan) back together. His fantasy turns into reality when the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island. Old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig.
The movie premieres on January 25 at 3 p.m. local time at the Eccles Theatre in Park City.

Mulligan is a Sundance veteran having premiered such movies there as 2009’s An Education; the Southern period drama Mudbound, which Netflix scooped up for $12.5M; Paul Dano’s feature directorial debut Wildlife; and Focus Features’ ultimate Oscar winner Promising Young Woman in 2020 before Covid shut down the world. Mulligan received Best Actress Oscar noms for An Education and Promising Young Woman.
