The Golden Globes Will Have a Best Podcast Category in 2026

And the Golden Globe for best podcast goes too… Yes, you heard that right. The Golden Globes will introduce a best podcast category starting with the 83rd annual ceremony in 2026.

Information regarding the specific criteria that will be used to determine what the best podcast is scant as of now. Per Deadline, organizers for the Golden Globes say that the “top 25 podcasts” each year will be up for consideration, and a total of six will be chosen as nominees. Eligibility requirements regarding how, exactly, those top 25 podcasts will be determined will reportedly be announced in the coming weeks.

“As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling,” said Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne in a press release. “Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard.”

The Golden Globes will become the first major awards body to recognize the burgeoning audio medium, even beating the Grammys to the punch. (That organization has a best audio book, narration, and storytelling award, but no award for best podcast.) Podcasters have plenty of other ways to receive recognition via digital-forward awards shows like the Webby Awards and the Shorty Awards, as well as podcast specific awards hows like the iHeart Podcast Awards and the Ambies.

After facing a string of scandals in the early 2020s, the Golden Globes were acquired by Dick Clark Productions in June of 2023. “Best podcast” marks the the third new category for the revamped Globes. Last year, the awards body introduced the cinematic and box office achievement award and best stand up comedian on television, which went to Wicked and Ali Wong: Single Lady, respectively.

So, who will win the inaugural Golden Globe for best podcast? Will it be Joe Rogan? Alex Cooper? Hawk Tuah? It’s anyone’s guess, but it’s a sheltered bet that returning host Nikki Glaser will have something hilarious to say about the whole thing when the 83rd Golden Globes air on January 11, 2026.
