The Match Factory has secured 20 additional sales on Cannes Jury Prize winner Sirât, including major territories UK-Ireland, Germany and Latin America.
Oliver Laxe’s film has sold to UK-Ireland (Altitude), Latin America (Cine Video y TV), Benelux (Cineart), Germany and Austria (Pandora Film), Switzerland (Filmcoopi), Japan (Transformer), South Korea (Challan), Taiwan (Andrews Film), Australia-New Zealand (Madman Entertainment), Poland (New Horizons), Sweden (TriArt Film), Norway (Fidalgo), Finland (Cinema Mondo), Greece (Feelgood Entertainment), Portugal (Nitrato Filmes), former Yugoslavia (MCF MegaCom), Romania (Transilvania Film), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Aerofilms), Hungary (Cirko Film), and the Baltics (A-One Films).
Neon acquired the film for North America yesterday, with Mubi taking rights for Italy, Turkey and India.
Pyramide is releasing Sirât in France, while BTeam Pictures will release the film in Spain on June 6.
Sirât was awarded the Jury Prize in the festival’s closing ceremony earlier this evening, jointly with Mascha Schilinski’s Sound Of Falling. It had its world premiere on Thursday, May 15 in Cannes.
The film follows a father and son at a rave in the mountains of southern Morocco, looking for their daughter/sister.
Sirât is produced by Pedro Almodovar, Agustin Almodovar and Esther Garcia for their El Deseo banner, with Xavi Font and Laxe for Filmes Da Ermida, Oriol Maymo for Uri Films, Mani Mortazavi and Andrea Queralt for 4A4 Productions, and Domingo Corral for Movistar Plus+.
The film also received the independent Cannes Soundtrack award, presented by a jury of journalists.
