Thanks to the popularity of shows like The Chosen and House of David, Biblical dramas have been on the rise in recent years. Both of the aforementioned titles focus on celebrated characters from the Bible and dig into the hefty themes and stories that audiences know best. But what if these same tales were reimagined with a comedic twist? Perhaps even something in line with The Office or Parks and Recreation? That’s precisely what Mitch Hudson set out to do when he penned and helmed a recent project titled The Promised Land. Today, Collider is thrilled to share the first look at the show’s trailer, which follows Moses (Wasim No’mani) as he leads his people to the titular utopia. In addition to unveiling the trailer, we’re also excited to share with readers that they can expect to tune in to YouTube this October for the six-episode launch of this hilarious production.

The trailer introduces No’mani’s Moses, as he tries to enlighten and lead his followers through the wilderness and towards salvation. While they may be overly eager to listen to religious teachings, there are still plenty of kerfuffles between them — especially when the water gets low. Dealing with the heat of the desert can be tough, but Moses will quickly learn that the challenges double and triple as soon as you add family to the mix on this offbeat, comedic adventure through one of the Bible’s most celebrated tales.

Joining No’mani in the Biblical mockumentary is an ensemble cast that also includes Shereen Khan (The Studio), Majed Sayess (Barry), Tryphena Wade (The Case of the Christmas Diamond), Artoun Nazareth (The Conners), Aidan Bristow (American Horror Story), Panta Mosleh (Christmas with the Singhs), Christine Mirzayan (FBI), and more. Fans of The Chosen might even catch a familiar face along the way as the two productions share a handful of cast members, such as Brad Culver, Spencer Jarman, and Dav Coretti.

Who Is Behind ‘The Promised Land’?

Hudson has plenty of background in bringing stories from the Bible off the pages and onto the screen. Prior to injecting a hefty dose of comedy into the story of Moses, he worked alongside The Chosen’s creator, co-scribe, director, and executive producer, Dallas Jenkins, on the chart-topping Prime Video production. While The Promised Land might not be one of the side projects that Jenkins and his team are pursuing at this moment, he’s remained incredibly supportive of Hudson and his recent series.

Check out the first look at The Promised Land in the trailer above and stay tuned to Collider for more information ahead of the series’ October arrival on YouTube.
