Voltron Live-Action Movie Casts Henry Cavill in the Lead Role

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Vision Coming to Life at Amazon MGM Studios

Henry Cavill, the actor known for his roles in Superman and other geek-friendly franchises, has joined the cast of Rawson Marshall Thurber’s upcoming live-action Voltron movie. The news was reported by Deadline, and it’s a significant coup for the production, considering Cavill’s geek cred.

The Much-Attempted Dream

This is not the first attempt to bring the mecha anime phenomenon to the big screen. As far back as 2008, we’ve been following attempts to get a big-screen take off the ground. However, Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of Red Notice, has sparked a bidding war with an original pitch and teaser reel that caught the attention of Hollywood big-wigs. The nature of that pitch remains a closely guarded secret, but Amazon MGM Studios has moved decisively to grab the movie, which will bring the Robot Lions – five pilots whose vehicles combine to form the mighty Voltron – into live-action for the first time.

Cavill Joins the Cast

Cavill joins newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who was announced earlier in the production of the movie. Thurber has co-written the script with Ellen Shanman. While there is no release date set for the movie, THR reports that shooting is scheduled to begin in Australia this fall. With Cavill’s recent appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine and the upcoming Highlander reboot, now seems like the perfect time for him to join the Cavillry.
