Sci-Fi Franchise News: Alien and Predator Updates

Alien Franchise

Fede Alvarez is working on ideas for an Alien: Romulus sequel, with the hope of bringing back stars David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny. According to Steve Asbell, the head of 20th Century Studios, "We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on. The two survivors, Rain and Andy, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, ‘Wow, where do people want to see them go next? We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.’"

Predator Franchise

As for the Predator side of the equation, Asbell revealed that Dan Trachtenberg has wrapped production in New Zealand on his Elle Fanning-starring Badlands film, and that he has also made a secret other Predator film. "There’s a secret Predator movie that will come out before the theatrical one but I can’t say anything about that yet," Asbell teased. Additionally, Asbell hinted that the Badlands film might be a "live-action Predator" film, which could suggest an animated interquel in the offing.

Alien vs. Predator News

Asbell also mentioned that a movie starring both an alien and a predator will "probably" happen, but not in the original AVP or Requiem vein. "It wouldn’t be in the way you think," Asbell explained. "That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies. If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps."

Conclusion

Fans of the Alien and Predator franchises have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. With new movies and projects in the works, it’s exciting to see how these beloved characters will continue to evolve and interact with each other on the big screen.
