“Now that’s how you hit your grandpa!” Vertigo Releasing has revealed an official trailer for the film titled Bang Bang, a gritty sports drama from filmmaker Vincent Grishaw. This originally premiered at the 2024 Tribeca and Locarno Film Festivals last year, and will be released in constrained theaters starting in September. Tim Blake Nelson stars as “Bang Bang” Rozyski, an eccentric retired pugilist obsessed with rectifying the sins of his past. He finds a renewed sense of purpose when he reconnects with his estranged grandson and begins training him in the very sport that destroyed his life. As the bond between them grows, questions arise about Bang Bang’s true motivations: is he simply passing down his anger, or is there real redemption in his mentoring? The cast includes Glenn Plummer, Andrew Liner, Kevin Corrigan, Nina Arianda, Erica Gimpel, and Daniella Pineda. This only looks good because it has Tim Blake Nelson starring in it, he’s usually always good in anything, but the rest of it looks cliche and forgettable. They can’t all be winners.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Vincent Grishaw’s film Bang Bang, direct from Vertigo’s YouTube:

Bang Bang Film Trailer

Retired boxer Bernard “Bang Bang” Rozyski (starring Tim Blake Nelson) is inspired to try his hand at training once he reconnects with his estranged grandson Justin. While their training brings Bang Bang out of the hole he’s been living in, everyone begins to question his motivations, including an ex-girlfriend from decades ago who was privy to Bang Bang’s meteoric rise in the sport in the 1980s. Is Bang Bang merely passing down inherited rage, or is there true altruism behind his tutelage? Bang Bang is directed by American indie filmmaker Vincent Grishaw, director of the films Coldwater, And Then I Go, What Josiah Saw, and this year’s Keep Quiet previously. The screenplay is written by Will Janowitz. Produced by Ran Namerode, Angelia Adiz, Cole Payne, Will Janowitz, Vincent Grishaw. This initially premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival last year and played at other fests. Vertigo Releasing will debut Grishaw’s Bang Bang film in select US theaters + on VOD starting September 12th, 2025 coming up. Anyone interested?
